Thoughts on Life

Every day we tend to see the bad things that happen; the driver that cuts you off, the person that shoves ahead of you in the subway preventing you from getting on, the customer who yells at you for no reason... but rarely are we treated with the unexpected niceness of someone going out of their way to help out. A couple weeks ago, I had one of those "Oh my God!" moments, and I'd like to share it with you.

Back in June, the 25th of June to be exact, Rick and I went to the Zoo. Yeah, I know, big surprise *Grin*. At the Zoo we actually went to the America's pavillion - we don't go there often. We were taking our time, looking at everything, and sat down on a bench in front of the otters and the beavers. After a few minutes, I gathered our stuff and went down the hall a bit to sit on the windowsill and watch some kids play. Nothing out of the ordinary... and then realized I had left my wallet on the bench. This is not 10 minutes later. I go back for it, and it's gone. I am NOT a happy camper. That wallet had ALL my ID left in it, all the pictures I had, receipts I needed... you name it. It was gone.

I called the Zoo every day for the next 2 weeks or so asking if anyone turned it in. Nothing. Rick thought that some young punk kids took it as they were through behind us at the time... I didn't think anymore of it, beyond getting my stuff back. So I cancelled my bank card right away and got a new one. Renewed my Health Card, my Petro-points and I had a backup Air Miles card. Got a reprint of my Zoo membership and found an old wallet in our basement when we cleaned it out and put that in there. I remembered my Library card, got that replaced, and continued to get things replaced and reprinted as they came up and I remembered "OH yeah!"

There is a point to all of this. 2 weeks ago, I was in Shopper's Drug Mart, thinking I had to get THAT card back too, and got the papers etc of all I needed to do. I get home and Rick said there was a message on the machine for me. It was a guy named Ed, who ran a demolision/contracting company with a partner, and that partner had found my wallet at their demolision site. He would have found my name in the phone book, I had a very old TD Visa in the wallet so he dropped it off at the nearest TD Bank. Great! But get this:

I lost my wallet on June 25th. At the Zoo - which is Meadowvale & Shephard. Almost Pickering. FAR EAST Toronto. IT was found.... in MISSISSAUGA! At Winston Churchill and the 401. WAY WEST, PAST Toronto!! So Rick calls Ed back, Ed says he dropped it off, talk to this lady at TD; he calls and talks to someone else who said they'll leave it up front for me and we picked it up the next day. Everything was still in it!! All my points cards, pictures, receipts, everything. I was impressed. I'm still carrying around 2 different wallets LOL

So... yeah. Things otherwise are ok. I still don't talk to my sisters, Mary never calls. Talk to my parents every week or so, but this is getting frustrating. I want my family back, god dammit! Nothing can make them talk to me. Nothing can make them trust me again. But god, I still love them.

Ok, Vicky, can it, or you're going to bring on the drippy-eyes!! I"m at work currently and enjoying it. Keeping busy and trying to stay out of trouble. Tired as all hell.... but doing ok :) I know there was something else..

Oh yea! I finally did someone's website. http://www.freewebs.com/big_machine/ . It's a band that we go to see whenever we can... the drummer, Doug, is Rick's boss. They're really good!! And they like the site!! :) I'll hopefully be able to keep it up and running...

Ok... too tired to think, signing off now.... talk to you soon!

Vicky
